  9. Please note that you have been provided with an Alpha version of our 
  10. Viper Windows 95 driver.  By using this driver, you have accepted 
  11. responsibility for any issues that may develop with your computer 
  12. system once you have installed this driver.

  14. Please note the known driver limitations in this document. 
  15.  
  16. If you experience any problems or difficulties while using this driver,
  17. please complete the problem report (PDR.TXT)  located on this disk. You
  18. may fax the problem report (Attention:  Technical Support - Viper 
  19. Windows 95 driver) to 408-325-7171,  mail it to 2880 Junction Ave., 
  20. San Jose, CA 95134 or e-mail this document to any of Diamond's on-line 
  21. services. Please do NOT call Diamond's Technical Support for 
  22. difficulties you encounter.  Technical Support does not offer direct 
  23. support for this Alpha driver.

  29. This is version 2.01A of the Windows 95 driver for the Viper series.  
  30. This is an accelerated driver. This driver currently supports the 
  31. following Diamond Viper display adapters:
  32.  
  33.         Viper Pro PCI
  34.         Viper SE PCI
  35.         Viper VLB
  36.  
  37.     Note: This driver does not currently support the Viper Pro\SE VLB or 
  38.     the Viper PCI. Support for these cards will be added in a future
  39.     release of the driver.

  42. Windows 95 Installation Notes
  43. ------------------------------
  44.  
  45. Preparing for the installation:
  46.         a. If you have downloaded the v2.01A drivers to your hard disk, 
  47.        perform the following:
  48.  
  49.         i.   Create a temporary directory to contain the downloaded file.
  50.         ii.  Execute the file to perform the file decompression.
  51.         iii. Make note of the complete path to the expanded files.
  52.  
  53.         b. If you have the floppy disk version of the v2.01A drivers
  54.         place the floppy disk in the drive now.
  55.  
  56. 1.    Click on the START button.
  57. 2.    Select the SETTINGS option.
  58. 3.    Choose the CONTROL PANEL.
  59. 4.    Open up the DISPLAY icon.
  60. 5.    Click on the SETTINGS tab.
  61. 6.    Press the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button.
  62. 7.    You should first select the Monitor Model to match your system.
  63.     If this is already done skip to the next step.
  64. 8.    Click on the CHANGE  button in the Adapter Type window.
  65. 9.    Press the HAVE DISK button.
  66. 10.    Insert the diskette, or path to the directory that contains the
  67.     Viper Windows 95 Drivers (e.g. the diskette in A: drive) and 
  68.     press <ENTER>.
  69. 11.    Choose the VIPER and bus type that corresponds to your video 
  70.     card adapter (e.g. VLB or PCI) from the list and then click on 
  71.     OK.
  72. 12.    The drivers will be installed and you will be returned to the 
  73.     main Settings window where you can select your preferred 
  74.     resolution and color depth. 
  75. 13.    After you have selected a mode you will be asked if the system 
  76.     can be restarted. Please restart the machine at this point.  
  77. 14.    The drivers are now installed.

  80. Known Issues
  81. ------------
  82.  
  83. Viper VLB:  When starting Windows 95, a corrupted band is displayed.
  84.  
  85. Viper VLB 2MB & Viper SE 2MB with BrookTree 485 DAC:  Windows displays 
  86. black screen when using 800x600x32bpp.
  87.  
  88. Viper VLB 2MB & Viper SE 2MB with BrookTree 485 DAC:  Random screen 
  89. corruption in Adobe Illustrator 4.10.
  90.  
  91. Viper VLB:  When a driver option is selected under Weitek Power tab, 
  92. the screen changes correctly, but when you select <CANCEL> the screen 
  93. does not change back to the previous settings.
  94.  
  95. Viper VLB:  Select Shutdown and restart. System hangs at the "Please 
  96. Wait For System To Shut Down" screen.
  97.  
  98. Windows 95 VDD bug:  On VLB and some early PCI systems the BIOS setup 
  99. needs to have Shadow BIOS for the VGA Adapter region (C0000~C7FFF) set 
  100. to Write Protect, if available. This problem is noticeable if you open 
  101. a DOS session Full-Screen then press <ALT><ENTER> to return to Windows 
  102. and again <ALT><ENTER> to return to DOS Full-Screen. If the system then
  103. locks-up or gives a blue screen fatal-error message this means that the
  104. card's VGA BIOS has been overwritten and you must either enable Shadow 
  105. Write Protect, or altogether disable Video ROM-BIOS Shadowing. This 
  106. problem is caused by the Windows95 VDD and cannot be corrected in 
  107. future drivers.
  108.  
  109. ALL PCI:  Color palette shift in Mech Warrior 2 (Pentium Processor 
  110. Edition) when game starts.
  111.

  113. Known Limitations
  114. -----------------
  115.  
  116. Viper SE 2mb with BrookTree 485 DAC:  No 24 bit color option. This is a 
  117. limitation of the hardware.
  118.  
  119.  
  120. Issues Addressed and Features Added
  121. -----------------------------------
  122.  
  123. DirectDraw:  The driver now provides hardware acceleration and support 
  124. for Microsoft's Direct Draw API.
  125.  
  126. Acceleration:  Screen to Screen BitBlt's, Memory to Screen, Solid 
  127. Brushs, Patterned Brushes, Quads and TextBlts are now supported and 
  128. accelerated wherever possible.
  129.  
  130. WeitekCPLX:  The control panel has been extended to work with the new 
  131. Microsoft DisplayCard Driver interface method.
  132.  
  133. DPMS:  Was not asserting blanked video during shutdown (DPMS Level-3) 
  134. and thereby not fully switching off the monitor.
